What is the Carter + Co Fund? 

The Carter + Co Fund, managed by Hands Across Canberra, is a dynamic example of how local business leadership can make a meaningful impact in the community. The Fund was established by James Carter, Managing Director of Carter + Co, with a strong belief in giving back and engaging both the company and the wider community in active, purpose-driven fundraising. Established in 2023, it was one of the first named funds created in partnership with Hands Across Canberra, reflecting a commitment to supporting the local community .

Hands Across Canberra is dedicated to addressing the needs of vulnerable individuals and families in the ACT. It collaborates with over 350 local organisations to raise funds, invest them for growth, and distribute grants to support various causes, including children, youth, families, persons with disabilities, and those affected by domestic violence and homelessness. 

Through its partnership with Hands Across Canberra, the Carter and Co Fund has contributed to supporting over 350 not-for-profit organisations in the region . As of April 2025, the fund has raised over $60,000, demonstrating a strong commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need in our local community.​

How do we raise funds? 

At the heart of the Fund’s fundraising strategy is The Epic Charity Challenge, a unique and energizing initiative spearheaded by James Carter himself. The idea behind the Challenge is simple but powerful: encourage Carter + Co team members to participate in various physical events throughout the year—everything from local fun runs and The Park Run, to triathlons, trail runs, and other endurance challenges.

These events are more than just personal goals for participants; they become fundraising campaigns where each team member seeks donations tied to their efforts. This model not only raises significant funds for local causes, but also strengthens team spirit and promotes a healthy, community-focused culture within the workplace.

In addition to individual challenges, Carter + Co launched its first major fundraising event in April 2025—a charity bowls competition that brought together 80 guests for a day of friendly competition, networking, and giving. The event featured:

  • A lively bowls tournament
  • A delicious spread of food and drinks
  • Engaging live and silent auctions
  • A strong sense of community

The success of this inaugural event was clear, with $25,000 raised in a single day. Due to its overwhelming positive response, Carter + Co has announced plans to make this an annual tradition—further cementing the Fund as a key player in local charitable giving.
