Previously described as ‘the Melbourne of Canberra’, we believe Braddon has well and truly outshone such a comparison!
Offering an eclectic mix of shops, restaurants, bars and more, not only is Braddon a great place to spend your time, it’s also a fabulous place to live.
Carter and Co have been in Braddon since our humble beginnings and consider ourselves quite the experts on what this funky little burb can offer. Here’s our top 10
1. Haig Park Dog Agility Course
Catering for your perfect pooch, this free to use obstacle course is perfect for mixing up your dog’s exercise. The perfect spot to enjoy a Saturday morning coffee and try something a little different with your pooch. They even provide free poop bags!
2. Street Art & Music
Just strolling up and down Lonsdale Street provides an array of stunning pieces by local artists. Enjoy large murals on the side of apartment complexes, and hidden gems in every nook and cranny. Positioned in Haig Park, you’ll also find a public use piano! While you might be limited to playing ‘chopsticks’, the piano often has talented musicians playing for everyone’s enjoyment.
3. Best brekkie
No 7. Lonsdale St Roasters. If you haven’t been, you’re missing out on not only fabulous coffee and food, but top end service and a gorgeous setting. With extensive upstairs seating, it’s an excellent place to grab a brew in a relaxing and light filled atmosphere!
4. Braddon Flowers
There are your usual florists, and then there’s Braddon Flowers. If you’re looking for flowers with a proper punch of colour, look no further. These bright bunches are a perfect pick me up if you’re looking for a gift, a little something to support a friend, or even a treat for yourself!
Positioned at the bottom of the Branx building, this awesome and unique little shop is owned and run by Lauren.
5. Floriade in the streets
The florals of Floriade hit the streets back when the pandemic first closed the event, and fortunately for Ken-Behrens, this trend has continued even though Floriade has reopened in all it’s glory. Dotting Lonsdale street, Spring time is well and truly alive with beautiful tulips and Pansys nestled in planter boxes and famous bright orange wheelbarrows.
6. Quick delicious Coffee
Elemental offers a delicious menu and phenomenal coffee. With a quick access takeaway window, it’s super easy to swing by and pick up your favourite. They have a great takeaway menu, so if sitting in the cosy atmosphere isn’t in your time frame, grab a brew and a bite to run!
7. Engima Fine Chocolate
The Willy Wonka of Canberra, Stu is the mind behind the delectable store. Enigmas chocolate is delectable, hand made magic, with creations ranging from colourful truffles through to chocolate sculptures. Once you try Engima, other chocolate just won’t do.
The shop is also where the chocolate is made, with windows providing a firsthand view of the magic that is Enigma chocolate!
8. Zaab
Offering Southeast Asian inspired cuisine, Zaab offers truly mouthwatering dishes and equally as impressive cocktails. A luxurious place to sit with friends and enjoy the finer things in life, or if you’re on the run, Zaab Station offers their full menu for takeaway!
9. Sonoma Bakery
There’s a good reason for the long line out the front of Sonoma each day. Offering a feast for the eyes, pastries and fresh goods are enough to make anyone’s mouth water. Pies, Quiches, Cookies, Morning Buns, Croissants, Loafs, tarts, turnovers are just the beginning of the list of treats Sonoma has on offer. Always freshly baked, always consistent, and always in demand -so get in fast!
